A CILIP Training Session for Staff Working in Public Libraries

This half-day online session is all about public libraries – the history of their development and establishment – and the more recent closures which we have seen across the country. Delegates will consider the purpose of public libraries, whether book lending is still relevant, and the breadth of their role in providing valuable services to local communities. Discussion sessions will suggest opportunities for public libraries in the future.
This course is designed for all staff working in public libraries and is particularly suited to newcomers and those who need a refresher.

About the trainer
Diana Edmonds, National Libraries Director
Diana Edmonds is an experienced manager of public libraries. She is the National Libraries Director for GLL, a large charitable social enterprise, and is currently responsible for five public library services: three in London (Bromley, Greenwich and Wandsworth) Dudley in the West Midlands and the County of Lincolnshire in the East Midlands.Diana’s previous role was as Assistant Director for Culture in the London Borough of Haringey, managing a portfolio of libraries, archives, museums, arts and adult learning.
Diana has a strong track record of increasing the use of public libraries, attracting more visitors and issuing more books and genuinely placing libraries at the heart of their communities. Diana is an entrepreneur for public libraries, always seeking new opportunities and new funding while providing an excellent traditional offer of great books, leading edge IT, welcoming buildings and spaces, and an attractive programme of activities.
